We bought our house the same month we got married in 1988. It was over 130 years old and seemed like a good idea to buy when we were 19 and 22 years old. Over the last 20+ years we have slowly chipped away at the things that needed to be renovated, including a major 3 month renovation in 1998 where we moved out for 3 months and lived in a travel trailer....by a lake...with no hot water oh and did I mention that our boys were 6 and 3 years old at the time? That is a story for another day. Last summer we tackled the remaining 2 rooms that hadn't been renovated in 1998. They were formerly a kid's playroom and a laundry room/bathroom and we moved our washer and dryer upstairs to a closet in the hall and changed the playroom into a spare bedroom and the laundry room into a bathroom.
We had to strip off all the old plaster, replace the sub floor etc. We did find some interesting things in the wall including a newspaper from Scotland from 1866, a clay pipe, and a tiny leather child's shoe.
