Yarn Along

Joining today with Ginny from Small Things for Yarn Along where you share a picture of what you are knitting and what you are reading:

The "Power of One" by Bryce Courtenay is this month's selection for a book club I am in.  It is the story of a small boy growing up in South Africa in the 1940's.  It is a big one...506 pages perfect for the chilly days of January.

The mitten pattern is "End of May Mittens" by Mandy Power, I love them.  It's the second time I've knit them and the pattern is excellent.

January musings

Last fall there was a recall of a lot of beef products sold here in the grocery store so I haven't eaten any beef since September and frankly, I needed a hamburger.  On the weekend we found a unique store that only sells food grown and produced within approx 100 miles.  I was excited to buy some ground beef and  try to recreate a Big Mac at home.  I found a recipe for "special sauce" on Pinterest.....then we decided to make skinny oven fries from raw potatoes sliced on this mandolin- thingy,,,that's when things went downhill.

I sliced the very end of my right index finger over halfway through...yikes.  After a trip to the emergency room and a negotiation with the very nice doctor on call I had my finger back together with Steri-strips instead of stitches.  I was so relieved to not have stitches I promised to not get my bandaged finger wet or disturbed at all for 7 days.

Needless to say the mandolin slicer thing is in the trash and supper was a bit late....but delicious.

The worst part of this little finger injury is not being able to knit these End of May Mittens by Mandy Power, I was having such fun with this excellent pattern.

The mitts look like this on the palm side:

And like this on the top:

I think the next time I want a Big Mac I'll drive through.

Yarn Along January 2013

I'm joining with Ginny today of "Small Things" for Yarnalong where you share of picture of what you are reading and what you are knitting.  I'm knitting a pair of socks for my 17 year-old son...he wants them colorful because he intends to wear them to school with is Birkenstocks...ok then.  I wish I had knit the leg part a bit longer but I knew I had to knit the foot long...as in size 10.5 mens...so I was afraid to use to much yarn up on the ribbing part.

The book was a Christmas gift from my husband...it tells the story of a young British man who spends a year in France setting up a British tea room.  We are planning a trip to France in September so I'm reading up on all things French.
